Independent Members of the Appeal Board – Vacancies
PMCPA has opportunities for an independent registered medical practitioner and a registered senior nurse practitioner (minimum Band 7 or equivalent) to sit on the Code of Practice Appeal Board as independent members.
About the PMCPA
The Prescription Medicines Code of Practice Authority (PMCPA) plays an important role in shaping the standards which society, UK Government (via the MHRA), Life Sciences stakeholders and healthcare customers expect of the industry and therefore the role helps to maintain the reputation of the pharmaceutical industry.
The PMCPA is the self-regulatory body for the pharmaceutical industry in the UK. We provide confidence to patients and the public who rely on medicines and vaccines by embedding high ethical standards and holding pharmaceutical companies accountable for compliance
The PMCPA has a significant role in the UK as administrator of the ABPI Code of Practice for the Pharmaceutical Industry as well as being a key contributor to industry code development at a European and International level via EFPIA and IFPMA. Working independently of the ABPI: it is responsible for the complaints procedure, the provision of informal advice and guidance, as well as training on the Code (as set out in the PMCPA Constitution and Procedure). The PMCPA reports to the Code of Practice Appeal Board in relation to the operation of the complaints procedure and to the President of the ABPI for administrative purposes.
About the Appeal Board
The Appeal Board is made up of other registered professionals and representatives of the pharmaceutical industry and is chaired by an independent legally qualified Chair. As a member of the Appeal Board, your role is to adjudicate on any appeals resulting from decisions made on cases by the Panel at the PMCPA. This will involve reviewing and listening to evidence, asking questions and working with other Appeal Board members to reach a decision. You will also consider all completed cases by the Panel to ensure no further action is required. These cases relate to complaints raised about pharmaceutical companies.
The Appeal Board also acts in a supervisory role in relation to the operation of the complaints procedure at the PMCPA. This means you will be updated on PMCPA operations and consulted on changes to process and procedure.
This role is ideal for anyone who has experience of making sound evidence based decisions and working collaboratively on a panel or board. Alternatively, it’s a good opportunity for someone who wants to expand their knowledge of the life sciences sector, and build on their decision making skills.
The role will be paid an annual retainer (£2,500) and an attendance fee for each meeting attended (£650). The role will also be reimbursed for their reasonable travel and subsistence costs etc. The commitment will be for 11-12 meetings a year in central London so is great for anyone looking to work flexibly. If you are interested and want further details then please read further.
